The increasing demand on Design engineers of vacuum handling equipment, to develop faster, lighter and lower cost vacuum solutions, can give problems sourcing equipment that will integrate neatly into the tighter design constraints of their new design. Simmatic have a solution, the VMECA vacuum cartridges. These Vacuum devices are the integral parts of much of the New VMECA Multi stage Vacuum Generator range, they are Multi Stage Venturi type nozzles, designed to be easily integrated into Vacuum Fixtures, vacuum heads, vacuum grippers, vacuum shafts or mandrels. Due to their size and weight they are ideally suited to be integrated right at the working end of your vacuum device, giving you maximum performance just where you need it. The photograph is a vacuum gripper designed by Ishida in Birmingham using the latest modelling techniques to produce a super lightweight vacuum gripper on their high speed Delta robots. The gripper incorporates two VMECA 2 stage vacuum cartridges giving maximum performance.

Bulk Bag Discharge and Vacuum Conveyors

January 2012 has seen Simmatic supply and install two 316 Stainless Steel Vacuum Conveyors and a single Bulk Bag Discharge Station for transferring beverage powder with Nitrogen. Simmatic were asked to supply a complete solution from Bulk Bags of product at one end and delivering measured quantities to two filling machines, a Nitrogen can filling machine and a Toyo Stick pack machine. As each machine required powder the VMECA Vacuum conveyors topped up the receiving hoppers to maintain working levels of powder. Simmatic worked closely with the customer to ensure their levels of Quality and standards were met on completion.

New Premises for Simmatic Automation

It was so good to finally move into our Larger Premises in December 2011, we now have so much more room, the old premises were beginning to feel very cramped.

Simmatic’s new home is Unit 11, Grinnall Business Centre, Sandy Lane, Stourport On Severn, Worcestershire DY13 9QB.

Festo VAS Vacuum Cups are no longer available

Festo have discontinued their range of VAS Vacuum cups and left many companies looking for alternatives. Vacuum Table for Glass Super Spacer

Simmatic were approached to supply a cost effective Vacuum Table for the Glass Industry. This table was designed to handle a range of sizes of glass, assisting the application of Super Spacer to sealed units. We opted for our range of smallest multi stage Vacuum Pumps VTC3031 with an integral Economiser. The Economiser controls the use of compressed air to the pump using only enough air to evacuate the vacuum cup. This is achieved using a adjustable diaphragm operated pneumatic vacuum switch. When vacuum level is reached a pilot air signal closes the air supply valve, holding the vacuum on integral non return valves. A Hysteresis of approximately 10% switches the air back on as vacuum decays. The operator controls the vacuum on / off with a foot operated control valve, leaving his hands free to position the glass as required.

The result is a very simple Vacuum Table with no electrics and a minimal amount of compressed air, using little or no air once vacuum is achieved.

Vacuum Universal Ball Joint

For those applications that require a a means of angular compliance, Simmatic can offer a range of Vacuum Ball Joints that will give articulated movement over 24 degrees. They are supplied with male and female thread connections suitable for direct mounting to Suction cups. They are fitted as standard with protective gaiter for dusty environments. In conjunction with our Spring Level Compensator, height and angular compliance can be achieved.

Oval Elongated Bellows Vacuum Cups

Simmatic have launched three new sizes to their VMECA range of Oval Bellows Vacuum Cups. The VOBF series vacuum pads are suitable for handling long narrow surfaces, flat or curved, such as round bar and tube sections. The advantage of Oval, Rectangular or oblong vacuum cups is the increased surface area contact with the product giving rise to higher lifting forces. Available in Durable Polyurethane with male and female fittings from 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 BSP /NPT and M10X1.5. The Internal base or footprint gives better stability and anti-slip characteristics.

Simmatic Vacuum Conveying Pump / Air Movers

The VTRA and VTRF VMECA range of Air Movers from Simmatic are ideal for conveying or transferring bulk materials such as granules, continuous strip and free flowing powders. The Pumps operate on compressed air and amplify the vacuum flow centrally through the vacuum pump allowing high flow vacuum up to 3396Nl/min.

We have used these succesfully for picking and placing awkward and irregular shaped products such as Walnuts, Cakes and Dumplings. Due to the irregular nature and the crumb that often is associated with these products, standard vacuum generators and vacuum cup configurations can struggle with Filters continuously blocking, and cups that are not flexible enough to allow for uneven surfaces.
